The Metropolitan Society of Natural Historians kicked off the year with a trip to the New England Aquarium. We embarked on a four hour trip from NYC to Boston where we met with science educator, Jonah Sidman who showed us around the aquarium. We saw a diversity of ecosystems from dense tropical rivers to colorful coral reefs inhabited by an assortment of life. Among the most charismatic were the sea dragons, flame jellies, garden eels and sea turtles. A number of us participated in the behind-the-scenes tour where we were able to see daily life in the aquarium. Highlights from the tour included venomous fish, shark jaws and a puffer fish swim bladder.
